Theater and musical training is built on standards that reflect respect and professionalism. These standards include listening to your instructor, following directions, and adhering to the requirements of our staff. We expect our students to arrive on time, ready for class, and to display courtesy to their parents, instructors, and classmates. Any misconduct unbecoming of students, guests, or instructors may result in suspension or dismissal from class.
Home practice is needed by each student to progress. We encourage parents to support this as it will help the instructors promote progress and prepare each student for the performance.
On a weekly basis instructors may pass out materials to your student. Please work with your child at home so that they are prepared for their classes. Many times important notices are left in the studio or in bags and parents never see them. Often times these are lines and scripts that are crucial to your child’s success in class. Please help your student to remember to practice at home.
Please inform your instructor of any injuries, allergies, or special needs that may require extra attention.
Talking, chewing gum, eating, drinking, sitting down, wandering in and out of the room are as unacceptable during a class as they would be on stage in front of an audience.
Class Arrival and Attendance:
It is essential that students arrive to class on time. Please have your students wait in the lobby until their teacher is ready to begin class. Teachers are only responsible for students during class time. Office personnel are not responsible for students at any time. Private lesson rooms are off limits unless the teacher is present.
Please try to arrive a little early for your class so that you can be prepared and in class right when the teacher begins warm ups. This allows for a safe and proper warm up to avoid injuries. Regular attendance is critical for student progression and group choreography as well as vocals. Please try to make all scheduled classes to allow instructors and students to do the best job possible.
Students are not to be left at Big Star Studios for excessive time before or after class, as there is no provision for watching unattended students. We also suggest that someone accompany little ones at the beginning, as well as at the end of class time. The instructors will be unable to monitor them if they are teaching a class with other students.
This includes having little ones walking in from the back parking lot! PLEASE be careful when dropping kids in our back lot, it is so busy back there in between class times!
If a student is unable to attend class, a courtesy email or phone call to inform the teacher and/or the office would be appreciated. No credit or refund will be given for missed classes.
Big Star Studios reserves the right to provide a substitute instructor if the regularly scheduled instructor is ill or otherwise unable to teach classes. If an instructor is ill and Big Star cannot arrange for a substitute, parents and students will be notified as soon as possible and a make up class will be scheduled by Big Star at a different time.
Make up Classes:
NO credits or refunds for missed classes. If Big Star has to cancel a make up will be provided. If you miss a private lesson with less than 24 hours there will be no make up class offered. If you have to cancel or reschedule with more than 24 hours notice you can work with your private teacher to schedule the make up at a time that works for you and the teacher.
If a class enrollment is too small, Big Star Studios reserves the right to cancel or combine that class with another appropriate class.
Photos & Video: Individual, group and class photos taken by us or an outside company that we hire may be used in any or all forms of media for advertising. Please notify us in writing if you would not like your child included in any media or marketing for Big Star Studios.
There will be a performance at the end of every session at Big Star. We are happy to let parents come in to watch at the end of our classes and often invite an audience to come watch. Parents are not allowed to sit in during classes. Parents are asked to refrain from distracting students in class. Teachers reserve the right to close the curtains at any time. Parents are encouraged to make an appointment with the instructor outside of class time to discuss their child’s progress. Please feel free to email your teacher to schedule an appointment.
Tuition and Fees:
Tuition is due on the 10th of each month: Big Star Studios is on a monthly billing system. Class tuition is billed on a 10-month payment scale (September – June) based on an average number of classes per month. Thus, tuition is the same each month regardless of how many lessons there are in any given month. You have two payment options.
- Set up automatic pay with our office- credit card on file
- A check may be written each month.
Tuition is due on the 10th of every month and late on the 15th of each month. Your account will be charged a late fee of $20 if you are not current by the 15th of each month. Accounts more than 2 months past due will be frozen and your student will not be able to attend class until your account is brought current.
We are very understanding and are happy to work out any special payment arrangements if needed. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to talk to us about this!
We run 4 sessions with a performance at the end of each session. This gives students the opportunity to withdraw from a class if they have other commitments during a given season. We offer a Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer session. If you need to take a session off please provide notice to the office by the 10th of the month prior to the session ending. The following are the notice dates for withdraw:
- Fall session November 10th
- Winter session February 10th,
- Spring session May 10th
Thank you very much as this helps us immensely with our planning!!
If payment is returned for NSF or for any other reason, such as an expired card, your account will be assessed a $25 re-processing fee unless other means of payment are worked out by the 15th of the month. Big Star Studios does not mail out billing statements.
Dropping a class:
Students are registered and her/his place is held in class for the entire school year, from registration through the June performance. Unless the student is removed from class by notifying our office of the students departure, the parent or guardian will be responsible for tuition payments through June. A simple notification by the 10th of the month prior to when you plan to withdrawl will stop the billing process.
Tuition, costumes, competition and travel fees are non-refundable. No credits or refunds for missed classes.
Registration Fee: A non-refundable registration fee is required for enrollment along with a standard registration online form. The annual fee is $35. This fee covers bookkeeping, scheduling, website updates for individual families, and time spent on emails and phone calls registering.
We do everything we can to keep all of our costumes home grown. Meaning, we try to find costumes that are items you already have at home. In some cases, with certain shows we may have costs associated with costumes. We will do everything we can to keep this fee as reasonable as possible. We will send out the exact price and links to purchase each costume for our rec kids about 6 weeks prior to each session performance. Our team kids will either order themselves from a link provided or Big Star staff will order in advance depending on the performance piece.
Costumes will be passed out during the two weeks prior to our performance. Tracy Marin is our costume coordinator and will contact each family to let them know costume needs at least 6 weeks to one month prior to our performance. Her email and contact info is:
- Tracy Marin- email@example.com
The last class prior to the final performance is a dress rehearsal. Please plan to bring all your costume pieces to the final week of classes prior to performance weekend.
Materials Fee for CPT & Summer Stock Production:
Occasionally you will see a materials fee for some of our programs. This fee covers the cost of downloading many pieces of music and the materials used during these specific classes. It may include but is not limited to: scripts, sheet music, downloads and printing costs. This fee does not apply to all classes and you will be notified in advance if it is applied.
Inclement Weather and Cancellations:
Although we do try to follow the Snoqualmie Valley Public Schools for the most part, Big Star Studios will not necessarily close every time SVSD closes. Many times roads are clear and safe by 2:30 pm.
If in doubt:
Call or email the studio, check the website, look at our Facebook page.
Parents are responsible for reading the information that is posted on the bulletin boards, emails that are sent out and website information. Every effort is made to make sure all these things are current and we are keeping you informed. Please check the information boards in the lobby regularly for updates as well as our website.
We hope you are able to keep this packet of information on file for the 2015/2016 school year! Please contact us with questions any time! We are always happy to help!
We appreciate every member of our Big Star Studios family!
