A professional singer, actress and educator with 2 decades of experience in New York City, Kari has recently relocated back to her Northwest roots after living and working in New York as a performer, teacher, musical director and accompanist for adults and children, novices and professionals. As a performer she sings cabaret, opera, operetta, jazz, theatre and pop genres. She has performed in jazz combos in New York City and Beijing, China as well as opera and operetta in Washington State and at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England. As a cabaret artist she has performed at Birdland, Don’t Tell Mama’s, Comix Comedy Club, Eighty Eights and The Knitting Factory in New York City as well as Rutgers University in New Jersey. In 2010 she won the New York City singing competition: Take 2! She has directed and musical directed numerous children’s workshops and productions including one staged reading and a fully staged performance of Bye Bye Birdie, as well as workshop productions of Wide Awake Jake and How to Eat Like a Child. She also taught specialized programs for at-risk students in both New York City & Jersey City, and has worked with children with Asperger's and Downs Syndrome in addition to other learning and behavioral disabilities; she believes anyone can benefit and thrive from the study of music.
